Frequently Asked Questions

We provide you with a superbill, a specialized receipt that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement if you have out-of-network physical therapy benefits.

If you’re experiencing financial hardship, we are committed to working with you. Sessions can be spaced and scheduled in a way that balances effectiveness and affordability. Please schedule a complimentary phone consultation to learn more.

  • Pricing varies based on session type and location. Please see our booking page for current rates. If you have questions about which format is right for you or want help navigating your out-of-network benefits, schedule a complimentary phone consultation.

  • Each physical therapy session is 60 minutes long and conducted one-on-one with Dr. Claire Hamnett, PT, DPT, WCS, PRPC, CLT. Treatment may include:

    • Hands-on manual therapy for pelvic floor muscles and joints

    • Functional strength training and corrective exercises

    • A custom home exercise program to reinforce progress between sessions

Our treatment is always evidence-based and tailored to your specific goals.

  • Most patients begin to notice improvement after 2–4 follow-up sessions. From there, we can assess your progress and better estimate the duration of your treatment plan. Book a complimentary phone consult for a more personalized timeline based on your condition.

  • Yes. You can mix and match formats, virtual, in-home, or in-office, as needed. Flexibility in care delivery is one of our core strengths. The most important factor is consistency in your physical therapy sessions. Learn more about our treatment options.

  • Please wear loose-fitting or activewear clothing to allow for exercise, stretching, and movement assessment. Every session includes an exercise component tailored to your condition. If you forget appropriate clothing, we’ll adapt the session to focus on other beneficial areas.

  • You do not need a prescription or referral to begin physical therapy with us. This allows you to start treatment and experience relief without delay. However, New York State law requires that after 10 visits or 30 days (whichever comes first), you must obtain a prescription from a licensed provider (MD, DO, NP, PA, Dentist, Podiatrist, or Midwife).

Please email the prescription to info@spruce.pt, text a photo to (212) 977-9760, or bring a physical copy to your appointment. If you don’t currently have a prescribing provider, we can refer you to one after your first visit.

  • Yes. There is always productive work we can do, even during menstruation. Skipping a session during your period may slow your progress. If internal vaginal pelvic floor release is part of your plan, we can adjust your session to focus on other effective therapies.

  • No. Internal assessments are never required. This applies to both initial evaluations and follow-up sessions.

If an internal pelvic floor muscle evaluation or treatment could be beneficial for your condition, we will discuss the potential benefits so you can make an informed decision. Consent and comfort are always prioritized in our care.

  • Appointments must be canceled at least 24 hours in advance by phone, email, or through the online patient portal. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice will result in the full appointment fee being charged to the card on file.

  • Spruce Physical Therapy treats patients of all ages, genders, and backgrounds. We specialize in abdominopelvic physical therapy and serve individuals with all types of pelvic floor dysfunction, whether male, female, nonbinary, trans, pediatric, or geriatric.

    Travel Fee:
All home physical therapy sessions include a minimum travel fee of $60. This fee may increase depending on your location, and you will be notified in advance if the fee exceeds $60. Once your plan of care begins, your travel fee will remain the same for the duration of treatment.

  • Unfortunately, no. Dr. Claire Hamnett, PT, DPT is not enrolled as a participating provider with Medicare. Under federal regulations, she is unable to offer medically necessary physical therapy services, even on a private-pay basis, to individuals covered by Medicare.

If you are a Medicare beneficiary seeking skilled physical therapy, we recommend reaching out to a provider who is enrolled in the program. We're happy to help direct you to one.

  • Yes, we do our best to accommodate same-day appointment requests based on availability. If you're experiencing discomfort or need care quickly, please contact us directly by phone or text. While same day bookings aren’t guaranteed, we always try to fit you in whenever possible.

  • No. Physical therapy doesn’t come with a one-size-fits-all handout, and for good reason. Every treatment plan is tailored based on your individual symptoms, medical history, physical presentation, and goals. I always provide guidance on what I clinically recommend, but it’s just as important that it aligns with what you’re comfortable with and ready for. It’s not safe or ethical to send exercises without a full evaluation.
